Meet Prateeti
Prateeti Thakar is a Founding Partner of C&T Advocates, Mumbai, and an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. A lawyer with strong roots in disputes and expertise in banking and finance, Prateeti has built her career not only in domestic matters but also international practice. She has worked alongside law firms and lawyers based in the United Kingdom, the UAE, Europe and the Maldives on both transactions and disputes that cross borders.
Prateeti began her career as a litigator in commercial disputes before the Bombay High Court, Mumbai, after which she spent five years at ICICI Bank, where she rose to its Associate Leadership Team. Advising the bank's stressed assets and asset management businesses, she dealt with borrowers, guarantors, asset purchasers and incoming management in insolvency. Across banking disputes and insolvency matters, negotiation sat at the centre of her work, engaging borrowers and guarantors before and after proceedings, and steering many matters to settlement. That grounding in negotiated resolution now shapes her contentious work in India and abroad. This includes a recovery action run in parallel before the High Court of Justice of England and Wales and India's National Company Law Tribunal, and matters before the DIFC Courts and DIAC alongside UAE counsel.
Alongside her contentious practice, Prateeti advises extensively on the transactional side of banking and finance. She drafts and negotiates facility agreements, security documentation and the wider suite of financing and security-creation instruments, including on cross-border transactions run on common law documentation. She also advises on cross-border commercial contracts more broadly.
